Day one will cover changes affecting addiction services such as a review of the 5+ campaign, the Law Commission final report and a review of the Misuse of Drugs Act.  Day two will be workshops around clinical practice covering brief intervention, coexisting disorders, primary health and coexisting disorders. There is no charge to attend and certificates will be available for those who attend to get 15 credits towards DAPAANZ registration. 

Communities 'living well'

Family members and others who are living close to people with alcohol and drug problems experience significant stress and as a result they often experience anxiety, depression or other health issues.  This one day training, based on the Kina resource Living Well, aimed at promoting the wellbeing of family members and friends of people using alcohol and drugs, includes the following topics:

  • Understanding family addiction issues
  • Application of the Living Well model
  • Family risk and resilience
  • Accessing other services

 

Family inclusive practice

Including families in addressing alcohol and drug issues can have significant benefits for both clients and their families. This introductory training, based on our Practitioner Guide, ‘Family Inclusive Practice in the Addiction Field’ is aimed at building on current inclusive practice. Addiction Treatment Leadership Day

Matua Raki staff plan and host — in collaboration with NCAT — three leadership days a year (in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch) in coordination with the the Ministry of Health. The leadership forums bring together addiction workforce leaders from different functions: policy, planning, funding, training and education, service management and delivery, consumers and cultural leaders.

Harm Reduction 2010: The Next Generation

These conferences have been held around the world for two decades and, for 2010, harm reduction is returning to the city which hosted the first conference in 1990 – Liverpool, England.

The conference theme for 2010 is ‘Harm Reduction: The Next Generation’. There are now two and a half decades of harm reduction experience. A substantial body of evidence shows the feasibility and effectiveness of harm reduction in a wide variety of social and cultural settings.
